Jered Byford is the trombone player in the University of Miami Stamps Jazz Quintet directed by Charles Bergeron. Hailing from the music scene of the Pacific Northwest, Jered began his early musicianship attending jazz camps such as the Central Washington University jazz camp and Centrum Port Townsend, taking private lessons, and attending masterclasses from jazz greats such as Bill Anthony, Jiggs Whigham, Wycliffe Gordon and Chris Stover.
Interested in both studio engineering and composition, Jered currently is pursuing a career in Jazz and Studio Performance, and performing with prestigious groups such as the Stamps Jazz Quintet and the University of Miami Concert Jazz Band. In his free time, he enjoys listening to different styles of music, composing new works, and engineering studio sessions for his friends.
Currently, alongside his passion of playing music, he also records music. Currently he is the studio manager of PLF330, one of the University of Miami’s prestigious recording studios. With access to this, plus the other recording studios, he has had the opportunity to not only record, but engineer and produce records when he has the time. As of now, he is working on three large projects, two of which are in the jazz idiom, one of which is much more modern.
